OUR STORY

Hi, I'm Ray , the founder of Bambooshit.

I started this journey in 2020 during the COVID-19 outbreak that shocked people in every corner of our world. The pandemic stopped me in my everyday tracks and shifted my gears to thinking about issues experienced globally that often go unnoticed.

In a matter of months, we saw single-use face masks skyrocket in sales, consequently introducing a new kind of pollution. Our environment is clearly suffering due to our human behavior. Everyday actions really make a difference — good or bad. The number of masks I see littered on footpaths is absolutely ridiculous — the saddest part of this being the animals and marine life hurt by this newly created waste.

Our simple, daily actions have big consequences — this is where Bambooshit comes in. I decided to launch a business aimed at helping others make the world a better place with small daily actions.

Bambooshit is here to deliver the best eco friendly alternatives & ethical products

After months of research, our team concluded that the first place to make household changes to sustainability was the kitchen. Food is loved, wanted and needed by all. Yet, we make so many mindless choices when it comes to single-use plastic. Unfinished food? Wrap it in cling wrap (plastic) and chuck it in the fridge. Need to pack a snack for your children? Grab a ziplock bag (plastic) and throw it in their backpack.

Seemingly harmless actions lead to the scary reality of 8.3 billion metric tonnes of plastic produced in our planet, with only 9% being recycled!

EVERYDAY ACTIONS FOR EVERYDAY IMPACT

Coming from a second generation migrant family in Australia, our hard-working family focused on hustle. The more efficient the better — time was always of the essence.

As a result, in 2018 when the big supermarkets finally got their act together and banned single-use plastic bags, my parents were not entirely onboard with the decision, thinking there would be practical hassles as a result.

Fast forward, to 2020; our cars are always stocked with beautiful reusable bags, suitable for any kind of shopping. As a cherry on top, Dad has started re-purposing food waste with his newly ordered compost bin and loving every moment of it!

This really goes to show that changes can be accepted by everyone, we just need to spread the word on the better alternatives available!

---

At Bambooshit, we want to make the planet greener by reducing plastic waste & finding more ethical product sourcing & manufacturing methods to lessen our harmful impact on Earth. Our mission is to completely replace all everyday use items in every Australian home with safer & more sustainable alternatives.

GOOD PLANETS ARE HARD TO FIND. LET'S TAKE CARE OF THIS ONE TOGETHER ♡

Our team will continue to work hard each day to explore an expansion in the near future for more eco-friendly products — from a sustainable kitchen to a sustainable home. This includes skincare, bathroom, laundry and outdoors — lots of eco ideas to come!

I want to include our community throughout in the decisions we make, so please join me and the team of amazing individuals in making a real difference!

Thank you for being a part of this journey and your endless support to our mission.

With love,

Ray

Our Definition Of Ethical Products

We have also articulated our own definition of ethical products. We define ethical products in regards to three main pillars, acknowledging that a definitive definition of “ethical” is unrealistic, as what each individual considers ethical is subjective and depends on many cultural and social factors.

Environment
Environment | Ethical fashion | Fashionhedge
MINIMIZING THE ENVIRONMENTAL IMPACT OF MANUFACTURING ACTIVITIES.
Treatment of waste-water, origin of dyes, pesticides and fertilizers used, and pollution agents generated by factories are factors that can be controlled and supervised to some extent reduce the damage to the surrounding ecosystems.
Deliberately causing harm to the environment when alternative techniques to minimize it are known signals a lack of corporate responsibility.
Some talk about “sustainable fashion” in a separate category to ethical fashion, but the truth is that caring for sustainability and the environment can be included in someones’ ethical paradigm, so we believe that any efforts to propose more environmentally sustainable business practices falls onto the ethical category as well.

Workers
Workers | Ethical fashion | Fashionhedge
RESPECTING FUNDAMENTAL HUMAN RIGHTS REGARDLESS OF THE LOCATION OR LEGAL SYSTEM OF A COUNTRY.
Many of the discussions around this topic revolves around fair wages, appropriate and safe facilities and general workers’ health considerations. Since outsourcing has become a standard practice in the fashion industry, dealing with different countries’ laws or lack of them is a real challenge for the companies that decide to manufacture abroad.
This has changed a lot and different tragedies showing the lack of safe working conditions in some factories have turned the responsibility back to the parent corporations, which have a larger pressure from the public and the media to respond for their vendors’ shortcomings. Deliberately disregarding people’s basic rights just because they are in a different country where laws might be weaker or not enforced is shady corporate behavior and many consumers make a statement by not shopping from such companies.

Consumers
Consumers | Ethical fashion |Fashionhedge
PROVIDING A QUALITY SERVICE AND TRANSPARENT INFORMATION ABOUT THE CHARACTERISTICS OF A PRODUCT.
Increased public knowledge about injustice in the workplace, hidden animal components of garments and quality of the fibers used drive consumers to ask more questions and get more information before buying. Providing complete data about any relevant detail of a product is an essential component of what we consider an ethical behavior.
Lying, distorting or hiding information is not tolerated and brands should strive to find out consumers information needs and fulfill them the best way they can.

What To Do?

Researching production methods, supply chains, and CSR practices is time-consuming and impractical. Not to mention, the fact that many brands do not disclose their internal policies regarding labor or sustainability. Finding a balance, where you buy only what you need and stay away from cheap, low-quality goods is a great way to start. We have created a conscious shopping experience where you don't have to worry about where your products are coming from ♻

Want to lead a greener lifestyle?

Using these incredible bamboo products and skipping products made from less sustainable sources is a small way to be more earth kind this year. However, we can all take small steps to be more eco-friendly in our home lives in any way!
